Kuwaiti Economic Student Award

To encourage Kuwaiti youth to pursue scientific research in the financial and banking fields in the State of Kuwait, the Central Bank of Kuwait launched the third cycle of the “Kuwaiti Economic Student Award” for students at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels, to motivate them to contribute to the development of banking work and support financial innovation in the State of Kuwait, in addition to shedding light on the distinguished in this field, and providing the banking and financial sectors with the most qualified young national cadres to support and develop the national economy. The award has been in place since 2018.

Conditions for submission

Conditions relating to applicants

  • The applicant must be a Kuwaiti citizen.‪
  • The participant’s age should not be less than 21 years and not more than 40 years old. ‪
  • ‪To be a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral student in a governmental or private academic institution inside or outside the State of Kuwait, and he or she must submit proof of that.
  • Those who have graduated within the previous three years have the right to participate, provided that they are within the aforementioned age group. ‪
  • ‪The research can be submitted individually or jointly, and in the case of joint research, the previous conditions must be applied to each member of the team.
  • ‪The participant should not submit more than one research paper in the same year, whether the research is submitted individually or jointly.

 

Conditions related to the research submitted

  • The research should be in Arabic or English language.
  • If the research is in English, an executive summary must be submitted in Arabic.
  • The research should not be published in a scientific journal or funded by other parties.
  • The research should meet the criteria of sober scientific research in terms of formulation, methods of conclusion, documentation and references.
  • The research should be recent and no more than two years should have passed since its completion from the date of opening the application for the award.
  • The research should not have been submitted for consideration previously.

 

General Terms

  • The participant(s) must send a copy of a valid civil ID.
  • The research paper file should be sent in two formats (pdf and word) and should not include the name of the researcher(s).
  • The participant(s) must send a personal introductory paragraph in both the Arabic and English language.
  • In the event that a joint research paper wins any prize, the award amount is divided equally among the research participants.

Awards

The following prizes are awarded to the research that is selected for the first three places:

Firstplace: a financial reward of 5,000 Kuwaiti dinars and a souvenir and a certificate of appreciation.

Secondplace: a financial reward of 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars and a certificate of appreciation.

Thirdplace: a financial reward of 2,000 Kuwaiti dinars and a certificate of appreciation.

In addition to the foregoing, an incentive award for outstanding research with an innovative topic is awarded, which is a souvenir and a certificate of appreciation.

This award can be withheld if the conditions do not apply to the submitted research.

Research Field

The economic, financial and banking fields, which contribute to the development of the work of the Kuwaiti banking sector and benefit directly from them.

Award Affairs Management

The Kuwaiti Economic Student Award Committee manages the award’s affairs, including:

  • Receiving the research participation in the award by e-mail.
  • Determining the research that meets the conditions.
  • The committee sets a special criterion for evaluating accepted research.
  • Collecting and coordinating arbitration works and monitoring its results.
  • Submitting arbitration recommendations and results to His Excellency the Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Banking Studies.

Arbitration

The Kuwaiti Economic Student Award Committee manages the affairs of the award, and the committee includes representatives from the Central Bank of Kuwait, the Institute of Banking Studies and Kuwaiti Banks, as well as three external arbitrators.

Evaluation of the research is according to the following:

  • 100% of the relative weight of the average results of the evaluation of the external arbitrators, and that evaluation results are developed independently and those results are presented to the award committee.

Copyright

The copyright of the winning research papers shall be transferred to the Institute of Banking Studies on a non-exclusive basis, and the institute has the right to publish them in any medium it deems appropriate.

The first-prize winning research paper and any research recommended by the committee will be published.
